Vathy is where all amenities are to be found, including a respectable selection of tavernas serving fresh fish dishes and local specialties.

Perachori Nearby is well known for its traditional Greek souvlaki and superb views. Sarakinikos beach is only 3 km away by vehicle or if you prefer to walk there for exercise, before you cool off by plunging into the cool waters of the Aegean Sea.

Alternatively, if you wish to be a little more adventurous, you can hire the services of a motor taxi boat at Vathy harbour and head for the pretty beach of Gidaki.

You are never far from anywhere on Ithaca! The whole island is only 96 sq. km in total! Hiking is a good way to take in the views of the island if you are that way inclined.

For those who prefer driving to the less windy un-spoilt pebble beaches in the south of Ithaca, access is easy, no more than 15 minutes by car to reach several local favorites.

Also, if you want to take a different view of the island, hire one of the small motor boats available in Vathy harbour and trace the coastline at your leisure to the picture postcard seashores of Filiatro, Sarakinikos and Skinos.

This is a very good way to access some of Ithaca’s best beaches, many of which lie in hidden and quite secluded coves accessible only from the water.
